Hi everybody, I'm Simple Steve Anthony, I call myself “Simple Steve” because I like things that are simple. Too many wild times in the 80's and 90's slowed my brain down a little Maybe, I don't know.
New technologies are great, but don't make me have to read a thousand page manual in order to use it. And don't give me a million choices either. I'll never make a decision. Make it good, make it better, but keep it simple please. If I go to a guitar website and I see a ton of links, I'm outa there!
I took my first guitar lesson in 1979. But just because I started back then, doesn't mean that I have that many years experience. There have been time periods in my life where the guitar never came out of the case, and times where the guitar took number one priority over everything else.
I always seemed to have a natural ability to play guitar. That certainly doesn't mean that I can play all music naturally, or that I can shred whatever I want. But there is a certain comfortability that I can't put into words that makes playing a guitar feel easy and natural to me.
My preferred music style is Rock, Blues and Metal. Although I love any good music. Even classical and symphonic music. Since I grew up through the late 70's and 80's, listening to bands like Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Dio, and too many others to mention. My guitar playing is mostly influenced by guitarists such as Jimmy Page and Ace Frehley. I love players like Vinnie Moore and Eddie Van Halen too, but I have a hard time playing that style of lightning speed shred!
I've played with bands since I was 16 years old. We played at local parties, pubs and events, but nothing spectacular. We won local competitions, made CD's and so on, but thats about as far as it went for me.
Yes, like many, I dreamed of being a rock star as a youth, but ended up married with children first and never realized the rock star dream.
I gave private lessons for a period of time but It got too frustrating trying to keep up with so many students and different lessons. So now I put what I know online. At least this way I don't have to keep nagging students to practice. They will have to be self motivated. This makes for better guitar players anyway.
I don't regret not pursuing a career as a rock star, a rock stars life is not as easy as it seems. I only regret the money I could have made. But playing guitar will always be a part of me. It will always be an outlet for me to be able to escape into my own musical world.
Since I know that one teacher could never be able to teach all types of playing styles, I list a lot of really cool online resources at BGO that I recommend to my site visitors. Courses and products that I think can help a guitarist reach his or her goals.
I look for quality products and I don't recommend any course or product unless I would use or buy it myself. And I have used or bought a lot of the products that I have on the site. I hope you will visit some of them and try them out as they help me keep the site free for everyone.
Enjoy the site and If you ever need some help or have a comment or suggestion, feel free to send me an email.
